What a Week at Hockey’s Farm Shop – Piglets, People & the Start of Easter

If ever there was a week that captured exactly what Hockey’s Farm Shop is all about, this was it.

From the arrival of our newest (and noisiest) residents to the start of the Easter holidays, and the incredible finale of the New Forest Awakening Festival, the farm has been full of life, laughter, and a real sense of community. Quite simply… you showed up, and we could not be more grateful.

A Very Special Arrival

Last Thursday brought one of those moments that reminds us why we do what we do. Our Oxford Sandy and Black pigs arrived on site, and it is safe to say they have already stolen the show.

This traditional British rare breed is known for its gentle nature, distinctive sandy colouring with black patches, and incredible quality when it comes to pork. But beyond all of that, there is something about pigs on a farm that just brings joy. Whether you are five or fifty, they have a way of making you stop, smile, and stay a little longer than planned.

Over the weekend, they quickly became firm favourites with visitors. Children were completely fascinated, and adults were just as captivated, often lingering by the enclosure, chatting, asking questions, and taking it all in.

It is these moments of connection to animals, to food, to the land, that sit right at the heart of what we do here at Hockey’s.

The Easter Holidays Have Begun

Almost in perfect timing, the Easter holidays kicked off just as the farm was coming to life in the spring sunshine. The longer days, lighter evenings, and that first real warmth in the air have brought a completely different energy across the site.

We have seen families arriving early, staying longer, and really making a day of it. Starting with breakfast in the Farmyard cafe, wandering through the Farm Shop and meeting the animals.

This is exactly what we always hope Hockey’s will be, a place where you don’t just pop in, but somewhere you can slow down, spend time together, and enjoy everything the New Forest has to offer.

The New Forest Awakening Finale – What a Day

Saturday marked the final event of the New Forest Awakening Festival 2026, and what a way to end it.

Our Family and Animal Showcase Day brought together everything we love about the farm - animals, local producers, learning, and a real sense of community. From the moment we opened, the atmosphere was incredible. By mid-morning, the farm was buzzing, and it did not slow down all day.

You came in your hundreds, filling the farm with energy, excitement, and genuine enthusiasm for what we do. To say we were overwhelmed by the support would be an understatement.

Throughout the day, families met our animals up close, children got involved in activities, and many of you stayed to listen to Jonny’s pig talk, which was, as always, a highlight. There is something incredibly special about sharing knowledge in such an open, informal way, standing by the animals, asking questions, and really understanding the story behind them.

Alongside the animals, we were joined by a brilliant line-up of local stallholders, showcasing the very best of the New Forest and beyond. From handcrafted gifts to artisan treats, it was a celebration of local talent and small businesses, and it was fantastic to see so many of you supporting them.

Thank You – It Means Everything

Weeks like this do not happen without you.

Every visit, every coffee ordered, every shop purchase, every kind word shared, whether in person or online, makes a difference. Running an independent farm shop, butchery, cafe, and gift space is no small task, and your support genuinely means everything to our team.

The feedback we have received over the past few days has been overwhelming in the best possible way. Messages about the atmosphere, the animals, the quality of the food, and the experience as a whole remind us why we work so hard to create something that feels welcoming, authentic, and rooted in the New Forest.

So, from all of us at Hockey’s,thank you.

The Easter Trail is Now Live

If you are planning a visit over the Easter holidays, there is even more reason to make a day of it.

Our Easter Trail is now running right through the holidays and has already been a huge hit with families.

For just £2, you can pop into The Vinery and pick up your activity pack, which includes everything little ones need to take part—trail sheet, crayons, and a fun, engaging way to explore the farm and surrounding areas.

It is designed to get children outdoors, moving, and interacting with the environment around them, whether that is spotting clues, following the trail, or simply enjoying the fresh air.

There is a little added bonus too…

When you purchase a trail pack, you will receive 10% off all Aurora toys in The Vinery. If you have seen our collection, you will know just how popular they are, from Palm Pals to Flopsies, they have quickly become favourites for children (and, let’s be honest, plenty of adults too).

It is the perfect way to round off a visit - activity, fresh air, and maybe a new cuddly companion to take home.

Make a Day of It at Hockey’s

One of the biggest things we have seen this past week is just how many of you are choosing to spend longer with us.

What might have once been a quick visit has turned into a full morning or afternoon, and that is exactly how Hockey’s is designed to be experienced.

Start your day with breakfast in the Farmyard cafe—our Hungry Breakfast remains a firm favourite—then wander through the Farm Shop, where you will find everything from locally sourced produce to our award-winning butchery.

From there, head out to meet the animals. Whether it is the new Oxford Sandy and Black pigs, our alpacas, donkeys, or guinea pigs, there is always something happening.

Then take the time to explore further. The walk down towards Cuckoo Copse is particularly beautiful at this time of year, with spring beginning to show itself in the landscape.

Finally, make sure you visit The Vinery. It is home to a carefully curated selection of local makers, gifts, and keepsakes, alongside our ever-popular Aurora toys.

Supporting Local, Celebrating the New Forest

Everything we do at Hockey’s is rooted in the New Forest.

From the produce we stock to the events we host, there is a constant focus on supporting local suppliers, showcasing regional talent, and creating a space where people can connect with the area in a meaningful way.

The New Forest Awakening Festival has been a perfect example of that. It has brought together businesses, communities, and visitors, all with a shared appreciation for the landscape, its traditions, and its future.

To have played a part in that and to have seen so many of you take part, has been incredibly special.
