Celebrating Our Journey: Finalists in the New Forest Brilliance in Business Awards 2025

We are thrilled to share some exciting news - we’ve been named finalists in the New Forest Brilliance in Business Awards 2025 for our Contribution to the New Forest Community. To be recognised among so many outstanding local businesses is truly an honour, and it gives us a chance to reflect on what community means to us here at Hockey’s.

Being part of the New Forest isn’t just about running a business, it’s about being part of a family, a community, and a landscape that we deeply love. From welcoming familiar faces through our doors every morning, to helping local suppliers showcase their work, and supporting people during difficult times, everything we do is rooted in care and connection.

A Family-Run Business With Heart

At Hockey’s, we’ve always believed that a business should feel like a family, both for our team and for our customers. Many of our team members return season after season, even after heading off to university, because they feel part of something special here. That sense of belonging and teamwork is what gives Hockey’s its warm, welcoming atmosphere.

We’re incredibly proud of our staff, some of whom have grown up with us, starting their first jobs here as teenagers, returning in the holidays, and eventually mentoring the next generation. It’s this family spirit that runs through everything we do, and we believe it’s a big part of what makes our business so special to the New Forest community.

When you visit Hockey’s, you’re not just greeted by a friendly face, you’re welcomed by a team that genuinely cares about making your day a little brighter.

Supporting Our Community During COVID

Like many local businesses, the COVID-19 pandemic brought challenges we never expected. But instead of stepping back, we stepped up.

Our owner, Jonny, spent hours every single day delivering essentials to people in our local community who couldn’t leave their homes. From fresh produce to comforting treats, he made sure that nobody was left without a friendly face or a helping hand during such a difficult time.

Those months reminded us of the importance of community and how much small gestures can mean. It wasn’t about business; it was about being there for each other. We’re proud to have played even a small part in helping people through those uncertain days, and it’s something we’ll never forget.

A Place of Comfort and Connection

Over the years, many of our visitors have told us that Hockey’s became part of their routine when they needed it most. We’ve heard stories from people who said that getting up, coming here for a coffee, or taking a quiet moment in our space helped them through tough times.

That’s something we don’t take lightly. Knowing that we can be a place where people feel comfortable, cared for, and connected is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do. Life can be busy, stressful, and sometimes lonely  and if a visit to Hockey’s helps brighten someone’s day, even a little, that’s worth more than anything.

We often say we’re not just a cafe or a business, we’re a part of people’s daily lives. Whether it’s catching up with friends, enjoying a slice of cake after a walk, or simply finding a moment of peace, we’re proud to offer that space.

Welcoming Everyone - Accessibility and Inclusion

Inclusivity is at the heart of what we do. We regularly welcome visits from supported living groups and local retirement homes, and we’ve made sure our space is mobility friendly, so everyone can feel comfortable and included.

We’ve taken great care to create an environment that’s easy to access, safe, and welcoming for all. Whether it’s providing space for wheelchairs, ensuring clear walkways, or simply offering an extra helping hand when needed, we’re always happy to go the extra mile.

Everyone deserves to feel part of their community  and it means a lot to us that Hockey’s is a place where everyone is truly welcome.

Championing Local Makers and Businesses

The New Forest is full of incredible talent, from local artists and bakers to farmers and craft producers. One of our greatest joys has been being able to give these small businesses a platform to share their products and tell their stories.

We believe that local businesses should lift each other up. By stocking, promoting, and celebrating local suppliers, we help our community grow together. It’s been amazing to watch so many small makers and family-run companies thrive, and knowing we’ve played even a small role in that makes us incredibly proud.

This sense of collaboration and community spirit is what makes the New Forest such a special place to live and work.

Taking Care - Of Animals and People

Our commitment to care doesn’t stop with people. Over the years, we’ve also taken in rescue animals, giving them a safe and loving home. Animals are an important part of the fabric of life here in the New Forest, and we’re proud to do our bit to look after them.

Visitors often comment on how much joy these animals bring, they’re part of what makes Hockey’s feel so alive and full of character. It’s another reflection of our wider belief: that kindness, whether to people or animals, is what really makes a community thrive.

Looking Ahead to the Awards Night

We can’t wait to attend the New Forest Brilliance in Business Awards Finals on Thursday 4th December 2025. Whether we take home the trophy or not, being recognised as finalists for our contribution to the community is an achievement we’ll always cherish.

It’s a celebration of everyone who’s been part of our story, our amazing staff, our loyal customers, our local suppliers, and all the people who’ve supported us over the years.

Thank you for being part of our journey. We wouldn’t be here without you.

Here’s to the next chapter and to continuing to make a difference, right here in the heart of the New Forest. 🌿
